P. 5
Preface
In Green Knowledge 2025, NIBIO presents a small selection of our research and knowledge
development within agriculture, forestry, environment, natural resources and the bioeconomy.
The report shows how research, data and analysis contribute to sustainable solutions for society,
public administration and business – in Norway and internationally.
Green Knowledge 2025 is firmly anchored in NIBIO’s strategy and our three overarching goals: to
be a clear agenda-setter in addressing major societal challenges, to develop knowledge that pro-
vides solutions of societal value, and to strengthen competitiveness in the bioeconomy. Through
examples from across the institute, the report illustrates how research can be translated into prac-
tically applicable knowledge – from the farmer’s field and individual trees in the forest, to munici-
pal climate action and national decision-making frameworks.
This year’s edition spans a wide range of topics: from plant health, soil health and food security to
climate and land-use accounting, circular resource use, technological development and prepared-
ness. Taken together, the cases illustrate how NIBIO’s interdisciplinary expertise helps address
climate change, biodiversity loss, pressure on land resources, and the need for increased self-suf-
ficiency and stronger value creation.
Sustainable development depends on collaboration between research, public administration,
business and society. The report offers a glimpse into NIBIO’s extensive portfolio of projects and
publications, demonstrating how knowledge is a prerequisite for the green transition. Guided by
the vision Vital knowledge for society and nature, NIBIO works every day to strengthen the
knowledge base for decisions made today – decisions that will have consequences for future gen-
erations.
We hope Green Knowledge 2025 provides insight, inspiration and a deeper understanding of how
research can contribute to a more sustainable and competitive future.
Enjoy the reading.
